Giant Willow Aphid

Tuberolachnus salignus

Description

Over all length 5 - 6mm. A large, grey aphid with a black tubercle on its back. The winged form has clear wings with a dark brown leading edge.

Habitat

Anywhere that Willows, or occasionally Poplars, grow.

Status and distribution

Common and widespread throughout Britain. Common in Nottinghamshire and at Netherfield Lagoons.

Best time to see

All year.
