Yellow Meadow Ant

Lasius flavus

Description

Over all length 3 - 5mm. Small yellow ants that spend most of their time below ground. The nests are conspicuous hills, several are often found close together.

Habitat

Meadows and grasslands, woodland edge, parks and gardens. They feed on other insects and the honey-dew from root feeding aphids.

Status and distribution

Common and widespread throughout Britain. Common in Nottinghamshire and at Netherfield Lagoons.

All year.
