Upcoming public events held at the Netherfield Lagoons Local Nature Reserve, Nottinghamshire.
Mapperley Golf Course Car Park (entrance at the end of Central Avenue, off Plains Road NG3 5LD). Start time: 9.30 am:
We meet in the car park. This session is all on dry land and involves pulling plants out – for those who have not done this before, it is easy work as the plants are small at the moment with shallow roots. Gloves are essential as there are nettles about as well (I will have a limited number of pairs).
The golf course is the main source of the seeds that spread down stream each year so we need to completely eradicate the balsam from here if we are to reach a permanent solution.
Together, we are really making a difference at the dyke and the wildlife is getting a chance to flourish.
Then in the afternoon at 3pm there will be a session at the Ouse Dyke (where it meets Teal Close)
Friday 26th July, 3 pm
Any questions, please call Mark on 07850 768337.
Up to ten species should be on the wing. Meet at the footbridge onto the reserve.

If you would like to help with some of the management work come along in the morning. We meet inside the metal gates in the small car park. Park on Teal Close and walk along the Ouse Dyke to the footbridge. Follow the Willow Walk and you will arrive at the car park. Please be on time so that we can allocate tools to you.
Balsam Bashing Campaign
We are approaching the end of the balsam season as the plants are now flowering and setting seed so please come along to the remaining sessions if you can.
The next scheduled session will be at 3 pm on Saturday, 3 August at the Ouse Dyke (where it meets Teal Close).
We will concentrate on the flowering plants downstream from the metal bridge and the plan is to remove as many flowering heads as possible so please bring cutting equipment or shears (I will have a couple of pairs on the day).

Come and join us on a bird count. This is a good way for beginners to gain experience and to find out more about the site. Meet at the end of Teal Close, opposite the CEM factory gates, at 07.45 hrs.
If the weather is kind there should be lots to look at. Meet at the footbridge onto the reserve.
