Xorides fuligator
Description
Body length 12 to 18mm. Black with a reddish abdomen which is blacker towards the end. The legs are red and black. The female pictured has a very long ovipositor.
Habitat
Woodland edge and hedgerows. The larvae are endoparasites of caterpillars.
Status and distribution
There are very few records, all from England. Another poorly recorded species.
Best time to see
May to July.
