Description
Body length 6 - 10mm. Mayflies have two flying forms, the "Dun", which emerges at the water surface from the underwater nymph and is dull, often olive coloured and the "Spinner", which is more brightly coloured and is the sexually mature form and often has a longer tail. Male and female spinners can be very different from each other. There are 51 species of Mayfly in Britain, some of which are very similar and need microscopic examination to determine their species.
Habitat
Small ponds and ditches.

May to September.
