When National Grid applied to Gedling Borough Council for planning permission for a new substation adjacent to the Netherfield Lagoons site, Gedling Conservation Trust raised objections, as the site to be used was a traditional roost site for migrating Golden Plover. National Grid were persuaded to mitigate the effects of their development by providing an alternative site close by. They are currently honouring this agreement by digging two wader scrapes in the field beside the lagoons which will be managed by the Trust and should provide the habitat that the plovers and other migrating waders require.
