Trichiosoma tibiale

Description

Body length 16 - 20mm. A large, bee-like sawfly with clubbed antennae. Very like T. leucorum, but with all dark tibiae. 

Habitat

Woodland edge and hedgerows. The larvae feed on Hawthorn.

Status and distribution

Widely distributed but uncommon in Britain. Uncommon in Nottinghamshire and recorded once at Netherfield Lagoons.

Best time to see

May to July.
