Figwort Sawfly

Tenthredo scrophulariae

Description

Body length 11 - 15mm. A brightly marked wasp mimic, black with yellow bands on the abdomen and orange legs and antennae.

Habitat

Woodland edge and hedgerows where Figwort can be found. The adults feed on other insects and the larvae feed on Figworts or Dark Mullein.

Status and distribution

Fairly common and widespread in England, except the south-west. Rare or absent further north. Common in Nottinghamshire and at Netherfield Lagoons.

Best time to see

May to August.
