Yellow-kneed Clubtail
Neoascia meticulosa
Description
Wing length 3 to 5mm. Very similar to Neoascia tenur, but with yellow tips to the hind femora.
Habitat
Water margins and marshy places with emergent vegetation. The larvae develop in the submerged sheaths of bulrushes and reed sweat-grass.
Status and distribution
Common and widespread throughout southern Britain but less common towards the north.
Best time to see
April to November.
