Tachinid Fly

Tachina ursina

Description

Over all length 10 to 15mm. A brown, furry fly with pale lines between the abdominal sections.

Habitat

Mostly woodland edge where the adults can be seen basking on dead stems in the spring sunshine. The larval host is not known.

Status and distribution

Local but widespread throughout England, Wales and parts of Scotland. Uncommon in Nottinghamshire and recorded once at Netherfield Lagoons.

Best time to see

March to April.
