Description
Over all length 9 to 10mm. A dark, blackish fly attractively marked with grey and white on the thorax and abdomen.
Habitat
Most often recorded around cattle, where its attentions can be a nuisance.
Status and distribution
Common and widespread throughout much of Britain. Common in Nottinghamshire and recorded twice at Netherfield Lagoons.
Best time to see
April/May and August/September.
