Sieve-winged Snailkiller
Coremacera marginata
Description
Over all length 7 - 10mm. This is a fairly large species with a mainly black body. There are paler markings on the thorax and the legs and antennae are dark orange. The wings are black, with a dense pattern of white spots and a strong black border.
Habitat
Damp grassland and hedgerows. The larvae feed on terrestrial snails. Can be found across most of the reserve.
Status and distribution
A common and widespread species, though it does show a southerly bias.
Best time to see
May to September.
