Description

Over all length 6.5 - 7mm. A small, orange-bodied fly with dark markings on its wings.

Habitat

Fields and hedgerows where its food plants grow. These are mainly members of the Asteraceae, composite flowered plants and include Coltsfoot,  Tussilago farfara, of which the larvae are leaf-miners.

Status and distribution

Thinly distributed throughout Britain. Recorded twice on the reserve.

Best time to see

May to September.
