Minettia longipennis
Description
Over all length 3.5 - 4mm. A small black species with fairly long, brown tinted wings and red eyes. The abdomen is quite short and rounded and the scutellum has a pale bluish border.
Habitat
Hedgerows and wooded areas. The Lower Path, Willow Walk and Riverside Path can turn this species up.
Status and distribution
Fairly common and widespread in Britain. Again showing a southerly bias. Common on the reserve.
Best time to see
May to September.
