Grey S-veined Sciomyzid

Description
Body length 6 to 8mm. It has a grey thorax and brown abdomen. The wings have some brown spots towards their tips and a short S-vein towards the rear edge.
Habitat
The edges of lakes, pools and ditches. The larvae feed on water snails.
Status and distribution
Can be locally common in southern Britain but rarer further north. Fairly common in Nottinghamshire and recorded twice at Netherfield Lagoons.
Best time to see
April to September.
