Description

Over all length 3.5 - 4mm. A small ant-like genus with a black body and clear wings, with no stigma. Specimens in this genus are very difficult to separate to species.

Habitat

Damp boggy areas. The larvae develop in rotting vegetation or dung.

Status and distribution

Distributed widely over Britain. 

Best time to see

May to September.
