Macquartia tenebricosa

Description

Over all length 5 to 9mm. An all dark tachinid which can sometimes be very shiny, almost metallic.

Habitat

Woodland edge, hedgerows and brown-field sites. The larvae parasitize Chrysomelid Beetles.

Status and distribution

Widespread throughout England and Wales, though less common in the West Country and uncommon in Scotland. Fairly common in Nottinghamshire and recorded infrequently at Netherfield Lagoons.

Best time to see

May to October.
