Empis trigramma
Description
Body Length 6mm. The dorsal surface of the thorax is dark with two pale longitudinal lines and the sides are yellowish. The abdomen is orange-brown with a thick dorsal stripe and a stripe along each side. The wings are unshaded and the legs are orange.
Habitat
Woodland edge and hedgerows where there is lush vegetation. The Riverside Walk seems to suit this species and it has been found at the back of the Large Gravel Pit.
Status and distribution
Fairly frequent in England and Wales and reported from the Scottish lowlands. Common in Nottinghamshire and regularly found at Netherfield Lagoons.
Best time to see
April to June.
