Description

Over all length 3mm. I tiny long-legged fly with whitish wings that are barred with black. There are other similar species which are difficult to differentiate.

Habitat

Usually seen on flat surfaces where they hunt even smaller prey. The larvae are carnivorous as well, hunting in damp substrates.

Status and distribution

Common and widespread throughout Britain. Common in Nottinghamshire and at Netherfield Lagoons.

Best time to see

June to August.
