Grass Fly

Camarota curvipennis

Description

Over all length 3mm. A small, dark fly that wraps its wings around its abdomen.

Habitat

Grassland and grassy areas. The larvae feed inside the grass stems.

Status and distribution

Not often reported and seems to be restricted to the south coast, East Anglia and the Midlands. Fairly common in Nottinghamshire and at Netherfield Lagoons.

Best time to see

August to October.
