Caddisfly

Limnephilus rhombicus

Description

Fore-wing 16 - 19mm. The wings are a pale tawny colour with a paler rhombic shape near the middle, sandwiched between two darker shapes.

Habitat

Weedy rivers, ponds and lakes. The larvae feed on algae near the water's edge.

Status and distribution

Widespread and fairly common throughout Britain. Fairly common in Nottinghamshire and recorded once at Netherfield.

Best time to see

May to September.
