Wingspan 22mm. The fore-wings are iridescent black with white and cream spots. The hind-wings and abdomen are scarlet with black markings.
Lowlands and marshy ground. The larvae feed on Comfrey, Nettles, Meadowsweet, bramble and several other herbaceous plants.
Status and distribution
Local with a tendency towards the south west and Wales. Uncommon in Nottinghamshire but recorded a few times recently. Recorded once at Netherfield.

June to July.
