Description

Wingspan 18 - 26mm. The body is mainly black with a red belt midway down the abdomen. The wings are clear with a thin black border and red tips to the fore-wings.

Habitat

The caterpillars feed on Willow, so damp habitats are used.

Status and distribution

Local but well distributed in southern Britain. Local in Nottinghamshire and regularly come to pheromone lures at Netherfield Lagoons.

Best time to see

June to July.
