Light Knot-grass

Acronicta menyanthidis

Description

Wingspan 35mm. The fore-wing is grey with darker markings. There is a kidney mark and cross-lines.

Habitat

Moorland, bogs and heathland. The larval food-plants are woody and include sallows.

Status and distribution

Local, mainly restricted to northern England and southern Scotland, with some sightings in south Wales and Norfolk. This was the first record for Nottinghamshire for over 100 years.
