Euproctis chrysorrhoea

Description

Wingspan 12 to 20mm. The head, thorax and wings are bright white. The abdomen is dark brown.

Habitat

Woodland edge and hedgerows. The larvae feed on the leaves of a wide variety of woody plants, mainly Rosaceae species but also sallows.

Status and distribution

Local and mainly southern and coastal. Uncommon but widespread in Nottinghamshire and recorded once at Netherfield Lagoons.

Best time to see

July to August.
