Pantilius tunicatus

Description

Over all length 8 to 10mm. Green with red markings. The amount of red varies considerably and some individuals can be quite dark.

Habitat

Found in the lower branches of Hazel, Alder and Birch, feeding on the sap.

Status and distribution

Most common in the south and east of England. Uncommon in the West Country and the north of England and more local in Scotland. Fairly common in Nottinghamshire and at Netherfield Lagoons.

Best time to see

September to October.
