Fever Fly
Doliphus febrilis
Description
Over all length 10mm. The males are small black flies with clear wings. The females have dark wings with clear wing-tips.
Habitat
A wide range of habitats are used. The adult flies can be seen on umbellifers, the larvae feed on roots in the soil.
Status and distribution
Common and widespread throughout most of Britain and especially abundant in Wales. Common in Nottinghamshire and at Netherfield Lagoons.
Best time to see
May to August, in two generations.
