Soldier Beetle

Malthinus minimus

Description

Over all length 3 to 4mm. The elytra stop short of the end of the abdomen and have yellow terminal spots.

Habitat

Well vegetated areas either woodland or grassland. They feed on other, small invertebrates.

Status and distribution

Common and widespread through out England and Wales. Less common in the north and Scotland. Common in Nottinghamshire and at Netherfield Lagoons.

Best time to see

June to October.
