Elaphrus riparius
Description
Over all length 6.5 to 7.5mm. A bright metallic green carabid with dull depressions on its elytra.
Habitat
Normally found on the muddy margins of pools or amongst the marginal vegetation. Both adults and larvae feed on other invertebrates hunted for in the soft mud.
Status and distribution
Can be found throughout Britain with a tendency to be reported less often towards the West Country, Wales and Scotland. Common in Nottinghamshire and at Netherfield Lagoons.
Best time to see
April to September.
