Musk Beetle

Aromia moschata

Description

Body length 13 - 35mm. A very large, metallic green beetle with very long antennae.

Habitat

Damp meadows and woodland where the adults feed on flowers such as Hogweed or Wild Carrot and the larvae feed in the young wood of willows and sallows.

Status and distribution

Local and mostly confined to the southern half of Britain. Uncommon in Nottinghamshire but seen annually at Netherfield Lagoons.

Best time to see

May to September.
