Hemicrepidius hirtus

Description

Body length 12 - 17mm.  A large, black species with grooves running the length of the elytra (wing cases) and long antennae.

Habitat

A wide variety of open habitats with grasses and tall herbaceous plants.

Status and distribution

Common and fairly widespread in lowland England and Wales but not very common in Scotland. Fairly common in Nottinghamshire and Netherfield Lagoons.

Best time to see

June to July.
