7-spot Ladybird
Coccinella septempunctata
Description
Over all length 5 - 8mm. Bright red with seven black spots on the elytra (there are some variants in colour and number of spots). The pronotum is black with two smallish white spots (Harlequin has much larger white spots).
Habitat
Can be found in a wide range of habitats, where the adults and larvae feed on aphids.
Status and distribution
Common and widespread through most of Britain but less so in the highlands. Common and widespread in Nottinghamshire and at Netherfield Lagoons.
Best time to see
April to October.
