Violet Black-legged Robberfly

Description

Body length 10 - 12mm. An all dark species with shaded wings and all black legs.

Habitat

Woodland edge, hedgerows and grasslands. The adults sit on foliage or grass stems and wait for prey to come along.

Status and distribution

Fairly common but local in southern Britain as far north as Yorkshire, but rare in Wales. Uncommon in Nottinghamshire and Netherfield Lagoons.

Best time to see

May to July.
