Achaius oratorius
Description
Body length 11 - 15mm. A black ichneumon with a white spot on the scutellum and tip of the abdomen, white spots on the inner sides of its eyes and white bands on the antennae and legs. There are several black species with white spots.
Habitat
Woodland edge and hedgerows. The larvae feed on butterfly and moth larvae.
Status and distribution
Thinly recorded in Britain so its distribution is not well known. Recorded twice at Netherfield Lagoons.
Best time to see
June to September.
