Gorytes quadrifasciatus
Description
Body length 8 to 13mm. Very similar to Gorytes laticinctus, but the yellow on the face is much reduced and the yellow abdominal bands are more equal in width.
Habitat
The adults feed mainly on umbeliferous flowers such as Wild Carrot and Hogweed. The females stock their egg chambers with small insects.
Status and distribution
Fairly common and widespread in England and Wales. Uncommon in Nottinghamshire and at Netherfield Lagoons, where Gorytes laticinctus is much the commoner species.
Best time to see
June to August.
