Description
Over all length 5 – 5.5mm. A small, yellowish fly with some dark spots on its wings as well as dark wingtips.
Habitat
Grassy areas and fields. The larvae develop in the stems of grasses. Can be an agricultural pest when they attack cereal crops in some density.
Status and Distribution
Commonest in the southern half of Britain. Fairly common on the reserve.
Best Time to See
June to October.
