Description
Body length 7 – 12mm. The head is black with yellow spots and bases to the antennae. The thorax is black with a yellow collar. The abdomen is black with a yellow band on the first segment and a gap before three more yellow bands towards the tip. The legs are mainly yellow. There are several other very similar species.
Habitat
A wide range of habitats with sandy or clay soils are used, including woodland, hedgerows and brown-field sites.
Status and Distribution
Fairly common and widespread in southern Britain. Fairly common in Nottinghamshire and at Netherfield Lagoons.
Best Time to See
June to August.
