Description
Over all length 11 – 15mm. A small cranefly with a grey body and thin dark dorsal line. These are a very difficult genus to separate and close views under a microscope are required to make a positive identification.
Habitat
Woodland and damp places where the larvae develop, feeding on decaying leaf litter.
Status and Distribution
A fairly common species through most of southern Britain. Occasionally come across at the reserve.
Best Time to See
April to October.
