Cheilosia bergenstammi

Description

Wing length 7 – 9mm. Medium-large hoverfly with orange antennae and orange, black-ringed tibiae and a dark thorax and abdomen covered in brown hairs. 

Habitat

Grasslands and hedgerows where Ragwort can be found. The larvae develop in the stem-bases and roots of Ragworts.

Status and Distribution

Widespread but local in Britain. Fairly common on the reserve.

Best Time to See

May to September.
