Ragwort Fly

Sphenella marginata

Description

Over all length 5mm. A small brown fly with brown spots and bars on its wings.

Habitat

Meadows, woodland edge and hedgerows. The larvae form a gall in the flower-head of Ragworts, Senecio species.

Status and Distribution

Fairly common in the southern half of Britain, uncommon in the north. Recorded once on the reserve.
