Description
Over all length 8mm. A brown-bodied fly with some darker stripes on the thorax and wings beautifully marked with a net-like pattern.
Habitat
Marshy areas at the edges of pools with thick emergent vegetation. The back of the Large Gravel Pit is a good area to look.
Status and Distribution
A common species distributed to the north of Scotland but commonest in southern Britain, especially west Wales. Common on the reserve.
Best Time to See
May to September.
