Over all length 13 – 15mm. In the male the thorax and abdomen are a light grey with darker brown markings, in the female the abdomen is warm brown with pale bands. The wings have a marbled effect of dark and light shading.
Habitat
Damp places in hedgerows and woodlands where the larvae feed on moss.
Status and Distribution
Quite common and distributed throughout Britain. Fairly common on the reserve.

August to October.
