Description
Body length 5 – 6mm. A small dark hoverfly with a shiny thorax. The antennae are quite small.
Habitat
Marshlands and water bodies with dense emergent vegetation. The larvae feed on the bases of reed mace and reed sweet-grass.
Status and Distribution
Widespread and fairly common throughout Britain. Fairly common in Nottinghamshire and recorded twice at Netherfield Lagoons.
Best Time to See
May to August.
