Description
Over all length 4mm. Has an orange head and grey body and a strong pattern of dark and light patches on its wings.
Habitat
Grassland and brown-field sites. The larvae develop in Mugwort, Artemesia vulgare, or Wormwood, Artemesia absinthium, where they form a gall in the stems, which shows as a slight swelling.
Status and Distribution
Restricted mainly to the southern half of Britain. Quite common on the reserve.
Best Time to See
April to August.
