Opomyza germinationis

Description

Over all length 3 – 4mm. This is a small, dull-looking fly with dark spots and leading edges to its wings. This is a family of very similar looking flies, so care needs to be taken when ascribing a species.

Habitat

More open grassy sites that are damp. The larvae develop inside grass stems. 

Status and Distribution

Well distributed over much of Britain but showing a strong bias towards Wales

Best Time to See

June to October.
