Ptychoptera minuta
Description
Over all length 7 - 9mm. This is a small insect with a shiny black body and brown legs. The male has minimal markings on the wings, the female two small marks like a thickening of the wing veins.
Habitat
Boggy areas rich in humus. The back of the Large Gravel Pit and the ford on the Lower Path have small populations.
Status and distribution
It is thinly distributed throughout Britain with more records coming from the south than the north. Not common on the reserve.
Best time to see
May to October.
