Description

Body length 9.5 - 13mm. A black and green species with slightly smoked wings with a long black stigma. 

Habitat

Woodland edge and hedgerows plus flowery meadows. The adults feed on pollen and nectar and some small insects. The larvae feed on a variety of plants, including Buttercups.

Status and distribution

Common and widespread in Britain. Common in Nottinghamshire and at Netherfield Lagoons.

Best time to see

May to July.
