Description
Body length 7 to 8mm. This is a mainly black sawfly with an orange abdomen. It is very similar to A. cyanocrocea, but the black on the wings is restricted to a small stigma and does not reach across the wing.
Habitat
Hedgerows and scrub where the larvae feed mainly on Hawthorn.
Status and distribution
Local and restricted to the south and east of England. Uncommon in Nottinghamshire and at Netherfield Lagoons.
