Description

Over all length 13 to 15mm. A fairly large, oval shaped, aquatic bug.

Habitat

Well vegetated ponds. It hides in the weed to seek its prey which consists of any passing creature that it can capture and over-power.

Status and distribution

Common and widespread in the southern half of Britain. Common in Nottinghamshire and at Netherfield Lagoons.

Best time to see

All year.
