Description

Wingspan 15 - 20mm.  This is a very variable species and it has a similar species, Acleris comariana, from which only microscopic examination can distinguish it.

Habitat

Hedgerows and woodland edge. The caterpillar feeds on rose, hawthorn or apple.

Status and distribution

Common and widespread in Britain. Common in Nottinghamshire and at Netherfield Lagoons.

Best time to see

August September.
